If you’re a stutterer, you’re not alone. If your child stutters, they are not alone and you are not alone, either. Many people who stutter of all ages find benefit connecting with, learning from, supporting, and being supported by other people who stutter. Everyone who stutters is different, but there is power in connecting with each other to better understand yourself and your experiences.
There are many available resources for stuttering support in the city of Pittsburgh. The National Stuttering Asssocation has a local chapter that meets at Duquesne University and via zoom on the second and fourth Thursdays of every month. The NSA is primarily adult-focused, but families and children are welcome. Each July, the NSA hosts a national 3-day convention.
FRIENDS, the National Association of Young People who Stutter has virtual support groups for children, teens, families, and young adults. A FRIENDS one-day in-person conference is held in Pittsburgh in the fall each year. FRIENDS also has a 3-day convention each July.
SAY, The Stuttering Association for the Young is a national non-profit organization that empowers, educates, and supports young people who stutter. SAY has various programs, including the online My Stutter Project and a 2-week sleep-away summer camp for young people who stutter.
